What are you guys looking at?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: I\u2019m showing Ashley pictures of my girlfriend. We have so much in common &#8212; even small things. She can\u2019t whistle and I can\u2019t either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: (to Pete) And here\u2019s a picture of my boyfriend. (sighs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: My family is big and so is his. I don\u2019t like ball sports and he doesn\u2019t either! (sighs) We are made for each other \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: \u2026 and so are we. (sighs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Uh\u2026 you have found perfect partners \u2026 and so have I!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Bot: Pete and Ashley are talking about people they love. They are putting two ideas together with connectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s start with these two sentences: She can\u2019t whistle. Pete can\u2019t whistle. How do you put them together?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete says, &#8220;She can\u2019t whistle and I can\u2019t either.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see we just add the conjunction \u201ceither\u201d and take away the verb \u201cwhistle.\u201d And Ashley says: &#8220;I don\u2019t like ball sports and he doesn\u2019t either!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep looking for connectors!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: You met someone, Anna? That\u2019s great! What\u2019s his name?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: His name? His name is uh\u2026 (stalling, looks around, sees a bus) Bus \u2026 ter. (stalling, looks around, sees a car) Car \u2026 ter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: (says it like Anna did) Bus\u2026ter Car\u2026ter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: It\u2019s just Buster Carter, Ashley. I like him and he likes me. We\u2019re a great couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: Hey, let\u2019s all get dinner tonight, together. You can bring Buster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: (laughing) Yeah, I can\u2019t wait to meet him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Thanks, Ashley, but he\u2019s really busy tonight with his uh, (looks around, sees squirrel) squirrel collection. Bye, guys! Gotta go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: Squirrel collection?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: You know, she made all that up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: That\u2019s so sad. She needs to meet someone. Hey, do you know anyone who she might\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: (to herself) Anna, Anna, you lied! You lied! Now, they think you have a boyfriend &#8211; with a squirrel collection. Here, squirrel. (throws food) Well, you need to tell them the truth. You don\u2019t have a boyfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Man: Excuse me, is this seat taken?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna shyly shakes head \u201cno\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Ashley, Pete, I need to talk to you. This morning, I lied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: Let me guess. There\u2019s no Buster Carter. What a surprise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: I\u2019m sorry. But later I really did meet someone and we have a lot in common!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s good at flying kites and so am I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He likes to read comics and so do I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can play the ukulele and so can he.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: He sounds perfect for you, Anna. Can he come tonight?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That\u2019s the sad part. You see, he just got a job as a spy, and tonight he leaves on assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: Of course he does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: But that&#8217;s okay, because now I know that there is someone out there made for me. (looks at the time) Oh, it\u2019s late! I have to see him off at the train station. Bye, you guys!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: Bye Anna! Oh dear, she\u2019s worse than we thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: She\u2019s lost her mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: What should we do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pete: (happy, excited) Let\u2019s tell her!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Pete goes to leave but Ashley pulls him back.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley: No, Pete. Mr. Right may not be real but he makes her really happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Bot: Did you find any other connectors? Notice how the words are in a different order in the part after \u201cso.\u201d &#8220;I am&#8221; becomes &#8220;am I&#8221; and &#8220;he can&#8221; becomes &#8220;can he.&#8221;<br>&#8220;He\u2019s good at flying kites and so am I.
