I think because I\u2019m walking with you, I\u2019m walking faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Come on, Penelope. Let&#8217;s take a break. We&#8217;ve been speed walking since 8 a.m.! You&#8217;re so competitive! You even wore your medals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: You brought your trophies! You\u2019re out of shape. When we were little girls, we could speed walk all day! (pulls ahead)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: (chases her) Hey, wait for me! Hey, you know the speed walking rules! If both feet leave the ground, it\u2019s running! You ran!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: Anna and Penelope are doing something they both love &#8211; speed walking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are also using adverb clauses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adverb clauses tell us when, why, how, where and under what conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, &#8220;since 8 a.m.&#8221; tells us when.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adverb clauses are dependent clauses and need an independent clause to make a complete sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Words like before, after, when, because, since, if and even though can signal an adverb clause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep watching for more adverb clauses!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Whew! That was great!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: (Anna catches up) Wow, Penelope, you\u2019re still really fast! Since I\u2019ve been working in an office, my speed walking has been much slower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: You are slower, Anna. Maybe you should hire a personal trainer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That will be great. As long as the trainer understands speed walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: (hands her a business card) Try this company. After you fill out an online application, they will match you to the perfect trainer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: As soon as I get home tonight, I\u2019ll do it! Thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Are you my trainer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: If you\u2019re Anna, then I\u2019m your trainer &#8212; Alaskan Albert. Because I\u2019m from Alaskan wilderness, I\u2019m skilled in all outdoor activities of the wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That\u2019s great but what about speed walking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Speed walking? That&#8217;s funny! Since I\u2019ve been living in the city, I\u2019ve combined wilderness training with a city workout. I call it \u201cCall of the Wild Parkour!\u201d (He howls like a wolf.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Okay \u2026 but seriously, when do we speed walk?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Your application did not say how funny you are!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: No. But it did say that I&#8217;m a speed walker! Did you read it? Forget it. We&#8217;ll have to cancel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: We can&#8217;t train today because it&#8217;s too cold and too windy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: No way! No pain, no gain! When you exercise in really cold weather, you feel alive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Really? Because right now I just feel cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: You&#8217;re so funny. But seriously, after our training, you will be ready for any extreme physical challenge. Let&#8217;s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(He leads Anna through some parkour exercises.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Anna, even though you\u2019re trying really hard, you\u2019re really bad at Call of the Wild Parkour. (he howls)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: I&#8217;m bad at Call of the Wild Parkour because I don\u2019t want to do Call of the Wild Parkour! (she howls) I am a speed walker. It\u2019s what I do. It\u2019s part of who I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Why didn\u2019t you say something?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: I did. Several times! You thought I was joking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaskan Albert: Now I understand.
