(to Rick) Rick, I think we should use this as the opening shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Anna, did Ms. Weaver give us instructions for covering the car show?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: She did. She said that we need to show lots of cars. She said we need to interview people. And she also said that we should have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Those were her exact words?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Yeah. She said, \u201cHave fun, Anna!\u201d And she is the boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: (to Rick) Okay, Rick, are you &#8211; are you ready? OK. Hello, I&#8217;m Anna Matteo. Welcome to the Washington Car Show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: People all over town are saying that if you like cars, this is the place to be! So, let&#8217;s see what people are talking about. (at Rick) How was that? Okay? Is that Good?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Bot: Anna, Penelope and Rick are making a news story about the Washington Car Show. Ms. Weaver gave them instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We often need to tell others what someone else said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to do this. One is to use the person\u2019s exact words and use quotation marks. We call this &#8220;direct speech.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, Ms. Weaver had said, \u201cYou need to show lots of cars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other way is to talk about what someone said. We call this &#8220;reported speech.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna tells Penelope: She said that we need to show lots of cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this sentence, &#8220;she,&#8221; is the subject, \u201csaid\u201d is the reporting verb, \u201cthat\u201d is the conjunction and \u201cwe need to show lots of cars\u201d is the reporting clause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep watching, and listen for sentences where Anna talks about what someone else said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This car show has many styles of vehicles. There are utility vehicles, classic cars, trucks, sports cars, and everyday vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Okay, I think we got good interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Me too! People had very different opinions. But they all said they loved cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Anna, look &#8212; a robot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: A robot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: A robot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Rick, we have to use the robot in the show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(They walk over to the robot. Anna begins to dance like a robot.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robot: What is your first name?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Anna! Anna!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robot: Anna, you know, what an effort. What an effort to robot dance. How about a round of applause for Anna! I\u2019ve never seen anyone try so hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Penelope, did you hear that? Hank the Robot said that he has never seen anyone dance like me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Uh, I think many people here are saying that, Anna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That was fun. You know what someone told me? You can test drive a Jaguar at this car show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Now, that sounds fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Let\u2019s go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This course is smooth. So you can drive faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: He said\u2026that I can\u2019t drive, unfortunately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(They begin the test drive. Kurt, the stunt driver, does the driving.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Oh my gosh\u2026reverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That was great. This is awesome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kurt: Are you ready to go on the rollercoaster?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: I\u2019m ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kurt: Here we go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That\u2019s awesome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: That was\u2026That was awesome! I just want to go one more time. I promise. That\u2019s it. Just one more time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This course is bumpy and uneven. I was told that I could drive this course. So I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: (to Rick) Okay, Rick, are you rolling? Awesome. Okay, this course is uneven. But I think the ride will be smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Ooh. This hill is really steep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Oh my gosh. I can\u2019t tell you how much fun this is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Penelope, that was so much fun! I think I need to go again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: Uh, Anna, I think we have enough test drive video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Ms. Weaver said to get a lot. So, I think I should go again. (to Rick) Rick, I\u2019m going to go again. Until next time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penelope: But I want to get lunch, Anna!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Bot: Penelope said she wants to go to lunch.
