I can\u2019t wait to see your trash!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Oh, okay. Alright, it\u2019s a &#8212; it\u2019s a net with a \u2026 oh, it\u2019s got a hole in it. Tell me about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This net said to me, \u201cAnna, I used to catch stuff. I don\u2019t anymore. So, use me, Anna.\u201d That\u2019s what it said. It said, \u201cUse me, Anna.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Okay. So\u2026it\u2019s a plastic helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This plastic helmet said, \u201cAnna. Hey, Anna, find me a head.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Okay, um\u2026and a broken toy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: This broken toy \u2026 this broken toy said to me \u2013 it said, \u201cAnna, help me find fun.\u201d \u201cHelp me, Anna\u201d is what it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, this stuff is not saying anything to you or me or anyone. It\u2019s what we like to call in the business \u2026 garbage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: But you said to bring in trash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Sometimes trash is treasure. Sometimes it&#8217;s just trash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, don\u2019t worry. Next week, I could teach you decoupage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Decoupage. Decoupage. That\u2019s fun to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: All you need to bring is a clean shoe box. A box that held shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: I got it. I got it! See you next week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: Ut oh. It looks like Anna doesn\u2019t know the difference between treasure and trash. She thinks those things are telling her something!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: The words tell and say have similar meanings. But we use them in different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof Bot: Tell means \u201cto inform or instruct someone with words\u201d and is almost always followed by an indirect object. For example, Sue says, \u201cTell me about that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: The word me is the indirect object and tells us who is being told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: Say means \u201cto express something with words\u201d and focuses more on the words used. For example, Anna says, \u201cThat\u2019s what it said. It said, \u2018Use me, Anna.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: Listen for when Anna and Sue use tell and say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, welcome to Decoupage class. Decoupage is just gluing pretty pictures onto stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Sue gets a phone call.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, I\u2019ve got to talk to this person. I\u2019ll be right back. Don\u2019t start without me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Got it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Sue leaves to take her phone call. Anna gets glue everywhere. She becomes covered with glue and paper.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Okay. I can fix this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, what happened? I told you to wait for me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Actually, you told me not to start without you, which I didn\u2019t. Your glue is really sticky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Next week, let\u2019s try lamp making. There\u2019s \u2013 there\u2019s no glue. Here&#8217;s a flier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Thanks. See you next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Anna, you did really well this week. I think lamp making might be your thing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Thanks, Sue. I did everything you told me to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue: Remember: I said to read the instructions really carefully. Where are those instructions?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: Let\u2019s just plug it in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna plugs in the lamp and, suddenly, the city loses electricity.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna: So, what class will you be teaching next week?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Bot: Too bad Anna didn\u2019t follow instructions!
