I see you like superhero culture. Me too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: In fact, tonight I\u2019m going to the big superhero convention. Are you going?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Um, I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Well, you&#8217;d better decide soon. Last year, it sold out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: So, since we\u2019re talking about superheroes: would you rather become a superhero by accident, like Spiderman, or be born a superhero, like Wonder Woman?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Take your time. It\u2019s a big question. I thought about it for days \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Okay. If I had to choose, I\u2019d rather be born a superhero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I\u2019d rather become a superhero by an unexpected accident!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Aren\u2019t all accidents unexpected?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Well, yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: What was that!? Are you okay?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I&#8217;m better than okay. I feel super!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: Oh No! Anna was just hit by lightning. She had better get help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: We use had better to give advice. It is very informal and stronger than should and ought to. For example, Anna says: \u201cYou&#8217;d better decide soon. Last year, it sold out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: When we use had better, we usually shorten the word had for personal pronouns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: We use would rather to say what we or someone else prefers to do or have. For example, the boy says: \u201cOkay. If I had to choose, I\u2019d rather be born a superhero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: With would rather, we also shorten the word would when used with personal pronouns. Keep watching and listen for had better and would rather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: You\u2019d better see a doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I\u2019ve never felt better!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: You were just struck by lightning!! And what happened to your hair and your clothes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I don&#8217;t know. Wait, I do know. This is my super suit! And this is my origin story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: What are you talking about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: An origin story tells the beginning of a superhero. You should know that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: You&#8217;re not making any sense, lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I would rather be called Lightning Bolt Lady! It\u2019ll sound great in a theme song: Lightning Bolt Lady!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Now, I need to find my superpowers &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Um, I really think &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Wait. Don\u2019t tell me. I\u2019ll read your mind. You are thinking you\u2019d like to be my super helper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: I was not thinking that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: \u2026 that you\u2019d like to live in a treehouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: \u2026 that you should eat more vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Please, stop talking. You really should get some help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Mind reading is not my superpower. Maybe I can become invisible. I \u2026 am \u2026 invisible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: You can\u2019t see me. Who am I? I\u2019m not here. You can\u2019t see me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: I can see you and so can everybody else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: No power of invisibility. Maybe I can create a force field. I feel it working. Nothing can hurt \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Someone throws a piece of paper and it hits her head.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Ow, that wasn\u2019t very nice. I see I have a lot of work to do. Well, goodbye, non-super person!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Wait. I\u2019d better go with you. You might get worse\u2026if that\u2019s even possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: That&#8217;s very nice of you, ordinary human. But I\u2019d rather go by myself. This is a quest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: Every time you speak, I get more confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: A quest is a part of all superhero stories. You really need to work on your superhero studies. Now, stand back. I\u2019ve never flown before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: And you\u2019re not flying now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Flying is also not my superpower. That\u2019s too bad. It&#8217;s going to be expensive to Uber everywhere. You know, I&#8217;d rather walk. It\u2019s a nice day. Goodbye, non-super person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MAN: I am not talking to strangers again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNOUNCER: Will Lightning Bolt Lady find her superpowers \u2026 ever? Ouch! Did that brick wall hurt?
