I am so glad we joined the Great City Bird Count! Aren&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: No. Today has been a bust \u2026 a flop \u2026 a bummer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELLY: I\u2019m sensing a little disappointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: A little?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELLY: My official bird-watching form is almost full!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I&#8217;ve only seen pigeons \u2026 lots and lots of pigeons! But I did write down some other valuable information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELLY: Did you find a bird&#8217;s nest?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(She shows Kelly a map of ice cream trucks.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I found 10 ice cream trucks in this five-block area.? Their music seems to follow me everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELLY: We&#8217;re supposed to be counting birds, not ice cream trucks. This is important scientific work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Well, when you want ice cream, my data will be pretty important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELLY: Anna, birds are everywhere! I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll find something. Use your imagination! But, make sure that you put it on the official form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna walks away with her ice cream truck map.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: Anna was supposed to find birds, but she didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: Kelly says, \u201cWe&#8217;re supposed to be counting birds, not ice cream trucks.\u201d To be supposed to means you are expected to do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: It\u2019s different from have to and ought to. Have to means you must do something. And ought to means you should do it but you don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PROF. BOT: Keep watching for have to and ought to!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna looks through binoculars but doesn&#8217;t see birds. She talks to herself.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: No birds. Oh wait, there\u2019s another ice cream truck! Anna, focus on birds. Aw, but that truck has my favorite flavor \u2026 banana!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: That man is in the way. I can\u2019t see the price. I wonder what flavor he&#8217;s getting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Strawberry? He doesn&#8217;t seem like a strawberry kind of guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: In fact, he doesn&#8217;t seem like an ice cream truck kind of guy. That suit looks expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Maybe he&#8217;s a spy! You know what that means: The ice cream truck driver is a spy, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Genius! It\u2019s a perfect disguise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: What?! The man in the suit left his briefcase at the ice cream truck!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I was right! He is a spy! And, he just dropped off top-secret information! I ought to do something. Something needs to be done! I need to do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna runs to the ice cream truck and takes the briefcase.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I did it! I took the spy\u2019s briefcase!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: What\u2019s that?! The ice cream truck &#8212; it\u2019s following me! It wants the case back! I have to hide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(She runs and hides behind a tree.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: This is my life now &#8212; running, scared, alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(She runs to another tree.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: That awful music &#8212; it\u2019s following me everywhere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(The man sees her at the tree.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: Hey! You found my briefcase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: You caught me! I mean, I caught you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: Well, I just want my briefcase. All my poems are in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Poems? You\u2019re a poet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: Well, I&#8217;m a lawyer. But I write poems, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Anna gives the man his briefcase.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: So, you\u2019re not a spy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: You look disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: No, that\u2019s okay. It\u2019s not your fault. Poems are nice, too. I guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: Well, would you like me to read my latest one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Why not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: On sunny day walks, my hand reaches for ice cream from fragaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: I love your poem!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: I love ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Me too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: What&#8217;s your favorite flavor?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Banana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: Well, my favorite flavor is \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: Strawberry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAN: How did you know that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ANNA: A little bird told me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conversation KELLY: Oh, Anna, there you are!
