The epic tale is seven hours long and played out over three consecutive nights. Kun Opera originates in Kunshan, southern China and appeared in historical record as early as the 14th century. It combines dance, music, mime, martial art, acrobatics and dialogue, blending poetry with elaborate music to create a style that's noted to be more lyrical than other forms of Chinese opera.
