Maritime officials said Friday Somali pirates have hijacked a Taiwanese fishing boat off the far southeast coast of Mauritius.
The European Union Naval Force says the 14-member crew was reported missing by the boat's owner Thursday.

There has been no confirmation on the status of the crew or if any ransom demand has been made.

The EU force has warned that Somali pirate attacks are likely to increase with the end of the regional monsoon season.EU ships are patrolling the shipping lanes near Somalia in an effort to reduce pirate hijackings. Somali pirates have hijacked dozens of ships in recent years, taking in tens of millions of dollars in ransom.
