Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met Wednesday with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao amid promises of friendship and growing strategic cooperation between the two countries.Speaking in the southern Chinese city of Suzhou earlier Wednesday, Mr. Gilani said his country's relationship with China is marked by "complete understanding, full trust and mutual cooperation and harmony."Pakistan's main news agency, meanwhile, quoted an aide to Mr. Gilani as saying the Chinese had promised "full support" for Pakistan as a strategic partner with hopes of taking the relationship to "a much higher level."

Analysts say Mr. Gilani seems to be contrasting his country's relationship with China to that with the United States, which has been severely strained since an American commando raid on a compound housing terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.However Pakistan's ambassador to China assured VOA on Tuesday that his country believes it needs good relations with both the United States and China if it is to prevail in the fight against terrorists.

分析人士说，吉拉尼似乎在把他的国家与中国的关系和跟美国的关系做对比，美八关系自美国突击队袭击恐怖头目本拉登藏身的院落以来甚为紧张。不过，巴基斯坦驻中国大使星期二向美国之音确认说，他的国家认为，要想在打击恐怖分子的斗争获得胜利，就需要同时与美国和中国保持良好关系。
