ANDRE AGASSI and Steffi Graf showed off their new baby boy yesterday and said the birth was the proudest day of their lives, eclipsing anything either had achieved on the tennis court.

Describing him as a "wonderful gift", Graf, 32, said Jaden Gil would be "smothered in love". The couple chose the first name because it was unusual and the second after Gil Reyes, Agassi's bodyguard and best friend. Jaden was born three weeks prematurely on Friday in Las Vegas and weighed 5lb 7oz.

Agassi, 31, said: "We are absolutely ready for parenthood. Nothing is more important to us than the future security of our child."

The couple, who married last week, began their relationship two years ago after both won titles in the 1999 French Open. Graf, who won Wimbledon seven times, retired soon afterwards.
