Afghan President Hamid Karzai says a NATO air strike has hit a convoy of election campaign workers in the country's north, killing 10 civilians.Mr. Karzai condemned the air strike, which he said happened Thursday in the province of Takhar. NATO says it is investigating the incident.

阿富汗总统卡尔扎伊说，北约的一次空袭在阿富汗北部击中了一个选举竞选人员的车队，导致10个平民丧生。卡尔扎伊谴责了这次空袭。他说，这次空袭星期四发生在塔哈尔省。北约说正在对这起事件展开调查。

Takhar provincial government spokesman Faiz Mohammad Tawhidi says NATO aircraft hit election campaigners working for a candidate in parliamentary elections due to be held on September 18. Tawhidi says the candidate, Abdul Wahid, was wounded in the air strike.

The incident happened as U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived in Kabul Thursday for meetings with Mr. Karzai and the commander of NATO forces in the country, U.S. General David Petraeus.Civilian casualties resulting from NATO operations have been a major source of tension between President Karzai and members of the alliance.
