PORTUGAL PAVILION

THEME:

“PORTUGAL, A PLAZA TO THE WORLD”, “PORTUGAL, ENERGY FOR THE WORLD”

The theme “Portugal, a Plaza to the World”, “Portugal, Energy for the World” was chosen due to its originality and ability to showcase our national identity, our geo-strategic position as a gateway to the Atlantic and our focus on the “Plaza” as a public space. The city of Lisbon, in all its fullness, is a symbol of Portuguese urbanity. Praca do Comercio was chosen for presentation to the outside world as an urban space that plays a key role for the nation.

The Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai is to cover 2,000 m2, and will have a facade lined in recyclable ecological cork, the national material. This is an example of innovation and good environmental practices that showcase Portugal’s image at the biggest World Exposition ever held.

The Portugal Pavilion reflects the concept of sustainability in contemporary urban building, and highlights it as a key economic and environmental feature within national policies.
