A senior U.S. diplomat is in South Korea to discuss the latest efforts to punish North Korea for the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship.

Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell met with Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and other officials in Seoul Thursday to coordinate efforts to have Pyongyang censured by the U.N. Security Council for the March 26th sinking of the Cheonan that killed 46 sailors.

Campbell told reporters the U.S. is determined to show its alliance with South Korea "is very firmly together" during a "critical" period. He said both sides are prepared to take action on a bilateral basis, including "appropriate and responsible" joint military activities.
