Vending Machines

In recent years, more and more vending machines have come into existence in Taiwan, selling everything from soft drinks, cigarettes and candy to canned beer, and potato chips.
Some people think that they are a boon to society, making so many things easy to procure at all hours of the day and night. Others, however, find them distasteful because they mar the landscape. For example, they claim that the esthetic beauty of an ancient temple or shrine is ruined when vending machines are found in the same compound, for the incongruity is too great. Still others have raised an outcry against vending machines at roadsides because no consideration is given, and no provisions made, for the benefit of people who are blind.
Although I personally am in favor of vending machines, for I find them very convenient, I also think that the voices raised for creating special vending machines for the sightless should be heeded. One simple solution would be to have the names of the products and the price marked in Braille. Another suggestion that I have is to create special vending machines that sell first-aid kits and standard medicines, such as aspirin, and anti-biotics, etc. for the benefit of people who happen to become injured or sick in the wee hours when all the drugstores are closed.

近年来，台湾的自动贩卖机愈来愈多，贩卖的东西从冷饮、香烟、糖果到罐装啤酒、洋芋片，应有尽有。
有些人认为它们对社会是种恩赐，使我们日夜均可买到这么多东西。然而其他人却认为它们太煞风景、令人厌恶。譬如他们就宣称，如果在古庙中发现自动贩卖机，古庙的美感就被破坏了，因为实在太不协调了。还有人高声抗议，反对路旁的自动贩卖机，因为完全没有考虑到盲人的利益，也没有盲人的供应品。
虽然我个人赞同自动贩卖机，因为我认为它们很方便，但为盲人制造特殊自动贩卖呼吁也必须注意。有一个简单的解决办法，是把产品名称及价格以点字法标出。我的另一项建议，是制造特殊贩卖机，贩卖急救用品和标准药物如阿斯匹灵和抗生素等，以稗益刚好在所有药房都打烊的深夜里受伤或生病的人。
