伊朗绞死10名毒品走私犯

Iranian state media report that Iran has hanged 10 people for smuggling drugs, while a rights group places the number of executions in Iran this year at 57. State-run media say the condemned people were executed in a prison in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran. They were convicted of smuggling, selling and storing narcotics.

The U.S.-based group International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran says the Iranian government is on an "execution binge," averaging one execution every eight hours so far in 2011. The group says that unreported executions may take the toll higher. Most of the executions in Iran this year have been for drug trafficking. The rights group says Iran executes more people per capita than any other country.
