drag one’s feet/ heels

drag这个动词原来的意思是“拖、拉”,drag one’s feet或drag one’s heels显然是一种走路的方式,和“大步走、快步走”恰恰相反,它是“拖着脚步走”的意思。作为成语,drag one’s feet用以表示在做一件事时当事人裹足不前,动作迟缓,这往往是出于当事人对这一件事的厌恶、反感,说明他对于做这件事是十分勉强的:

Tom dragged his feet when told to turn off the TV and go to bed.
当汤姆被告知关掉电视,上床睡觉时,他慢吞吞的,故意拖延。

He boasted that he could swim across the lake, but he started to drag his heels as we were getting closer to the lake.
他夸口说能游过个个湖,可是当我们越来越接近湖的时候,他却畏缩不前了。

The school authorities are dragging their heels in giving the staff members a raise although this is what they promised to do last year.
虽然学校当局去年答应给教员加一次薪,但却迟迟不兑现诺言。
