Chandler: Ok, so it’s just because it was my table, I have to buy a new one?
Joey: Ok, ok, how about if we split it?
Chandler: What do you mean, like, buy it together?
Joey: Yeah.

【世博视角】
split 作为动词的基本解释是“劈开”。在对话中，乔伊当然不是要把一张桌子给劈开，他的意思是和钱德乐两人共同来分担买桌子的费用,也就相当于share the cost, 同样我们也可以说split the cost。说到分摊费用，比如和一群朋友吃完饭后实行AA制的结帐方式，以前有个说法是 go Dutch, 但现在大家普遍都说Let’s split it, 更具体一点就是 Let’s split the bill.
另外，在向别人建议做什么事情时，经常会用到“how about …?” 这个表达法，注意about在这里是作介词用，所以如果要在它后面直接跟动词的话，必须把这一动词变成动名词形式，也就是how about doing something, 例如：
How about putting the sofa closer to the window?
No, I’m busy on Monday. How about Tuesday at seven?
