Guy: Welcome to the building. I’m uh, Steve Sarah; I’m president of the tenants committee.
Ross: Oh hi! Ross Geller. And this is my friend Phoebe.
Steve: Oh hi Phoebe.
Phoebe: Mr. President.
Steve: I came to talk to you about Howard.
Ross: Howard?
Steve: Yeah, he’s the handy man. He’s gonna be retiring next week and everyone who lives here is kicking in a 100 bucks as a thank you for all the hard work type of thing.
Ross: Oh that’s nice.

【世博视角】
对于handy一词相信大家应该不会感到陌生了，在前几期的对话中它曾出现过，它可以用来形容某样方便有用的工具。如果某个人很擅长使用某个工具我们也可以用handy with sth来表示。在今天的对话中，handy一词与man一起组成了一个新词handyman，就是指那些善于从事维修工作的人，尤其是家居生活中出现的一些问题，如下水道堵塞什么的。
Kick in 表示每人出一份钱，放到一起用于给朋友或是同事买礼物。在以前的对话中我们还学过相同的表达法chip in，例：
We were each asked to kick in 50 cents toward the cost.
If everyone chips in one pound, we could buy Mary a wedding present.
