Jump on sth. & Pull someone’s leg

What a sunny day! Do you want to jump on it? How about playing football?

To jump on something means to grip the chance immediately to do something. For example:

Banff National Park is the Canada’s oldest and best national park, hidden in the majestic Rocky Mountains. When I had the chance to go back and visit the park last summer, I jumped on it.

需要注意的是jump on something也可以写作jump at something。

Last month, my former girlfriend told me she would break up with me. At first, I thought she was just pulling my leg, but the final let me know that it was true.

“拖某人后腿”在英文中有一个相应的表达──hold someone back 或是 be a drag/hindrance on someone. To pull someone’s leg means to make fun of or to get one to believe something that isn’t true.

When he told me he had been to Arctic, followed scientific expeditions, I realized he was just pulling my leg.
