If You’re Going to Apologize, Make It Sincere- Otherwise, Don’t Bother!

We begin learning how to admit we are wrong in a situation when we are children, but claiming responsibility or blame is something that is never easy. If you need to apologize to someone for something you did or didn’t do, said or didn’t say, for example, first take a long time to think about the situation. Admit your guilt first to yourself because in America or when dealing with Americans, you must appear genuine in your apology. There’s nothing more frustrating to an American than someone who apologizes insincerely. If a person really isn’t sorry for something that happened, why is she or he apologizing? It’s insulting to receive an insincere apology and makes the situation even worse. If a person is already angry, they will only become more upset upon receiving a false apology.

【50】Tell Me What You Really Think

Tell Me What You Really Think…But Don’t Really Tell Me…

Most people don’t have money growing on trees, so they like to weigh their purchases carefully before spending their money. People may put a lot of thought into what they buy- even a small purchase like a pair of shoes or a shirt- so don’t disappoint them by saying that their purchase is stupid or unwise. If you are asked, “How do you like my new shirt/ring/car?” you should always make a positive comment. Unless you are very, very good friends with the person, it’s better not to be absolutely honest with a person. If you hate the new shirt they are wearing, okay, but don’t tell them that! Say instead, “That’s a really unique shirt- I like the color a lot,” or something else detailed yet vague.
