Making A Natural Exit From A Conversation

If two people have a lot in common or haven’t seen each other in a long time, there may be a lot to catch up on or talk about. I can talk with my best friend for hours on the phone, but with our busy schedules, this is impractical. It’s important to learn good social skills, and one of the hardest to manage is how to naturally bring the conversation to an end. Commenting on how nice it’s been to talk with someone is a good way to begin wrapping up the conversation. Expressing that you know there are a million other things that you didn’t get a chance to talk about is also a good idea. Finally, you can apologize for cutting the conversation short and express your desires to carry on the conversation at a later date.

Sharing Personal Information Right Off the Bat- How Strange Americans Are!

Americans on the whole may be more likely to share personal information with strangers than Chinese people. It’s not uncommon for someone when he is introducing himself to say that he, for example, has two kids but is divorced. Divorce is common enough that people are by no means shocked at hearing that a person has been married and then divorced. People will usually bring up information about themselves that can serve as a conversation starter. It’s common to talk about where you studied in college, where you’re now working, and groups or clubs you belong to for example.
