Have money to burn & Put money on sth.

Every time I see her I always find that she holds a new style of cell phone. She must have money to burn.

This idiom refers to someone who has more money than he needs, so that he spends it on unnecessary things.

I think the expensive car is probably not for me, unless I have the money to burn.

The idiom used to say that you feel sure that something will happen.

Tom is very confidant of his success to accomplish his purpose. He tells his workmate that he can put money on it.

After China launched its first manned spaceship successfully, I was sure that Chinese people’s dream to land on the moon would come true soon. I was willing to put money on it.

结束语:一个真正有很多钱的人(have money to burn),往往会做许多善事,对于这一点,我敢打赌(put money on it)。

Nothing to write home about & Jump at the bait

Yes, there is cheese, bread in the supermarket, but the taste is nothing to write home about.

If you say that something is nothing to write home about, you mean that it is not very interesting, exciting, or special.

Although he had tried his best to perform on the popular TV show, his performance, however, was nothing to write home about.

He jumped at the bait when he heard the bastard’s sweet words.

If you jump at the bait, then you swallow the bait quickly without thinking seriously. For example:

Some people who always want to get enough money within one night often jump at the bait.

结束语:今天我们学习了两个片语:一个是nothing to write home about,也可以写作not much to write home about, 其意思是“不足称道的”。

Tooth and nail & Not a bed of roses

If you fight tooth and nail, you show people that you try with a lot of effort or determination to do something.

Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger prepared for his new starring role as governor of California by naming a veteran Republican lawmaker as his transition chief and reaching out to his severest critics, top Democrats who fought tooth and nail to prevent his election.

In order to get our plans accepted, we must fought tooth and nail to prepare well everything that should be done before.

If a job or situation is not a bed of roses, it is not always pleasant and there are difficult things to deal with.

Life isn’t always a bed of roses, you know. It is always accompanied with struggle and affliction.

After the war, the country has never been a bed of roses.

结束语:在一所小学教书并非是一件优哉游哉的事情(not a bed of roses)。
