Cash in on sth. & Take a bite out of sth.

Xiao Zhang is cashing in on his restaurant because of his proper running.

To cash in on something means to make a profit from a situation in a way that other people think is wrong or unfair.

Almost everyone is to buy a cell phone. Many businesses are cashing in on this consumer trend.

Many women don’t pay attention to the price of proper clothes, although these clothes can take a real bite out of the bank account.

If you take a bit out of something, it especially means that you spend lots of money on some kinds of things. For example:

Traveling around china last year took a big bite out of my savings.

哎,有什么办法,女人追求的是漂亮,花上好一部分钱(take a bite out of their money)又算什么呢!

Give way to & Put one’s heart and soul in sth.

After a long argument, we didn’t give way to each other. Finally, she broke up with me.

The idiom means to agree to do what someone else wants, instead of what you want, especially after a lot of discussion or argument. 如:

Finally, the boss gave way to the union. He promised to increase the workers’ pay.

今天我们要介绍的第二个片语是put all one’s heart and soul to do something.

As handicapped, Roger had learned what he could do and put all his heart and soul to do it, thus it’s no doubt to succeed for him.

片语put all one’s heart and soul to do something意思就是我们常说的“全心全意的做某事”。heart and soul是副词片语,意思是“全心全意地”,整个片语直译为“做某事时用上了自己的整个身心”,这不正是“全心全意的做某事”吗?If you put all your heart and soul to do something, it means you do it with all your heart and soul. For example:

The most important point view of his speech was that we should put all our heart and soul to work for the people.

注意,片语put all one’s heart and soul to do something 常写作to do something with all one’s heart and soul.
The most important point view of his speech was that we should work for the people with all our heart and soul.

In hot water & It pays to do sth.

Jordan was in hot water after he ate all the food without permitting.

If someone is in hot water, they are in trouble because they have done something wrong. For example:

Joe would be in hot water if he shouldn’t finish his paper by tomorrow,

下面我们来看一看今天要学习的第二个片语,it pays to do something.

Your company produces a new product. It pays to advertise.

这里的片语it pays to do something意思是“值得做某事”。 If it pays to do something, we can say that people is worth doing something. For example:

It pays to work hard. You might get a promotion.

第二个片语是it pays to do something,意思是 “做某事是值得的”。
