Nikki:OK. Do you want a trim, or do you want to get your hair done?
Wen:[Pointing to a customer] Can I get my hair done like his? His girlfriend has the same hair, and she’s white.
Nikki:Like that Rastafarian over there? You mean dreadlocks? You crazy! That’ll take way too long.
Wen:What kind of style are you getting done? Can we match?
Nikki:I’m gonna get a relaxer, then flip the ends up like Halle.
Wen:Can I get a relaxer, too? And why did you say, “You crazy” instead of “You ou’re crazy”?

Rastafarian
拉斯塔教的祟拜者。「拉斯塔教」Rasta源自牙买加，视埃塞俄比亚已故皇帝Haile Selassie为上帝，此教的信徒有一些特征，像是留长卷发、穿宽松的衣服，雷鬼乐也是Rastafarian最具代表性的事物之一

翻动。这里的flip the ends up是指「将发尾弄翘」。Halle 这里是指荷莉贝瑞(Halle Berry)，她是第一个夺得奥斯卡影后的黑人女演员

Nikki:Ha-ha! I said, “Turn off the TV, so we can go to a salon. We have to look good while we’re dancing tonight. Is that OK with you?”

salon (n.)
（专供美发或美容的）沙龙。Angles Hair Design则是文中某家美发沙龙的名字
A: Where are you going?

slang (v.)
俚语。
A: I have no idea what this actor is saying.
我听不懂这个演员在说什么？
B: Me, either– Movies these days are filled with too much slang.

妮琪： 哈哈！我说，「关掉电视，我们就可以去美容院。我们今晚去跳舞得看起来美一点。这样好不好？」
小雯： 西底（我完全同意）。

In Nikki’s room

Nikki:Wanna chill out and watch cable? [turns on the TV]
Wen:[A few minutes later] Wow! Besides The Cosby Show, I’ve never seen a black sitcom. What’s this program?
Nikki:It’s a drama called Soul Food. This channel is BET-Black Entertainment Television. It has black shows, news and commercials.
Wen:This show is like a black Friends.
Nikki:BET has black shows that are overlooked by mainstream white TV.
Wen:That’s cool. I’ve heard LA has an all-Asian channel on cable.
Nikki:Word!
Wen:What?

小雯： 真不赖。我听说在洛杉矶也有个全部是亚洲节目的有线频道。
妮琪： 西底！
小雯： 什么？
