Lily is getting into the bathtub

Lily:Ouch! The water’s too hot!
Mom:Get in slowly, sweetie. You’ll get used to it. I’m gonna go and make you some chicken soup.
Lily:I’m not hungry, Mom.
Mom:I know you don’t have an appetite, but you need to eat something. You’ll get too weak if you don’t eat.
Lily:[A few minutes later] Ohh…I’m sweating already. It’s so hot. I can feel it boiling! Can I get out yet?
Mom:That’s a good sign. But just soak a little longer, OK?

浴缸
I like old style bathtubs much better than new ones.
比起新式浴缸，我更喜欢老式的浴缸。

don’t have an appetite
没有胃口，也可以说have no appetite
You can eat my pizza, I don’t have an appetite right now.
你可以吃我的披萨，我现在没胃口。

莉莉进入浴缸

莉莉：哎唷！水太烫了啦！
妈妈：亲爱的，慢慢泡进去。你会习惯这个温度的。我去帮你煮些鸡汤。
莉莉：妈，我不饿。
妈妈：我知道你没胃口，但你需要吃点东西。不吃东西会没有体力。
莉莉：（几分钟之后）喔……我已经流汗了。水好烫。我觉得水在沸腾！我可以出来了没？
妈妈：这是个不错的征兆。但再多泡一下，好吗？

Mom is taking Lily’s temperature

Lily:Mom!???
Mom:I know, sweetie. Just open wide. Don’t talk. [takes temperature]
Lily:[Mumbling] Mmm…
Mom:[Takes thermometer out] Oh, you’ve got a fever. One-oh-one…time to break out the children’s Tylenol.
Lily:I have the chills. Can you turn on the heater?
Mom:We’re not turning on the heater in May! You need to take a bath. We’ll heat you up and see if you can sweat this thing out.

take someone’s temperature
量某人的体温。thermometer 则是「温度计」
Can you take my temperature, please?
能麻烦你帮我量体温吗？

mumble (v.)
口齿不清地说话。对话中因为Lily含着温度计，所以说话不清楚
Don’t mumble, I can’t hear you!
别含含糊糊的，我听不见你在说啥！

break out
把（需要用到的东西）拿出来
Let’s break out the booze and have a party!
咱们把酒拿出来，开个舞会吧！

heater (n.)
暖气机
My heater is broken, so wear lots of clothes.
我的暖气坏了，多穿点衣服吧。

sweat something out
藉由排汗（把体内毒素）排出
You have a fever? You better get in bed and sweat it out.
你发烧了？你最好上床去发一发汗。

妈妈在帮莉莉量体温

莉莉：妈！？？？
妈妈：亲爱的，我知道。嘴张大。别说话。（量体温）
莉莉：（嘟哝）嗯……
妈妈：（取出温度计）喔，你发烧了。一○一度……该把儿童感冒药找出来了。
莉莉：我好冷。你可以把暖气打开吗？
妈妈：五月没人在开暖气！你需要泡个澡。我们来让你觉得热一点，看你能不能流流汗就好了。

Lily is sick in bed

Mom:Lily! Why aren’t you up and ready for school?
Lily:I don’t feel so good, Mom.
Mom:Lily, if you’re acting sick just because you want to play hooky…
Lily:[Coughing] No, Mom. I’m really sick.
Mom:Oh, that’s a nasty cough. Let me feel your head. [feels her forehead] You’re on fire!

I need to act sick so my mom lets me stay home from school.

逃课
I would play hooky every day if I could.
要是可以，我会天天逃课。

咳嗽
A: What’s wrong with you now?
你怎么了？

我咳嗽了。

on fire
着火，这是发烧的夸张说法，表示额头烫得像着火似的。「发烧」是get a fever，「发冷」则是have the chills
Our house is on fire!
我们家着火了！

莉莉生病躺在床上

妈妈：莉莉！怎么还不起床准备上学？
莉莉：妈，我不舒服。
妈妈：莉莉，如果你为了想逃课而装病……
莉莉：（咳嗽）不是，妈。我真的病了。
妈妈：喔，咳得蛮严重的。我摸摸你的头。（摸她的额头）你好烫！
