Making a Memorable First Impression
When Americans introduce themselves to an informal group, they oftentimes try to think of something unique or interesting to say about themselves to help the group remember them. They might include the hometown where they grew up, hobbies or interests of theirs, or a very short story that gives the group an idea of their personality. Many Americans want to “stick out from the crowd,” especially when introducing themselves within a large group of people. If you say the same things as everyone else, how will your introduction be memorable? Telling a short joke, appropriate to the situation of course, is also another way to grab the attention of the other group members.
