人们常说天生我才必有用，在英文中有一个描述人们业务较精，能力很强的片语与这个说法有点类似。这个片语是you’re a natural. natural当名词用时，是指“天生的专家，非常适合于……的人”，所以要称赞对方的能力很強，或是对某方面学有专精，表现优异时，你就可以夸奖他说you’re a natural. The idiom refers to someone who is good at doing something without having to try hard or practice. For example:

Toney, I can’t believe it. You spent two days working out your whole assignments for the summer vocation. You’re a natural.
(译文：托妮，我简直不能相信，你花了两天就把整个暑假作业做完了，真是个天才。)

相反地，若是对方做什么事都不行，完全没有天分可言，你就可以说You just don’t have it.所以一下子我们就学了两个片语呢。

Believe it or not, you just don’t have it, but Tom is a natural. He has been working hard to get his new company ready for opening in a foreign country. He not only placed an ad for workers in the newspaper，but also arranged interviews with some of them. All in all, things are really coming together!
(译文：信不信由你，你做什么事都不行，但Tom却是个天才。他很努力的在为外国的新公司开张做准备，他不但把招工广告打在报纸上，还安排和应聘者的面试，总之，一切真的是步上了轨道。)

上面这个例子中，我们又看到一个新的片语：Come together. 你知道它是什么意思吗？come是“来，来临，到达”的意思，together是“一起，共同”的意思，所以这个片语原义指“集合、相交、聚集在一起，”也常来形容对立双方消除分歧。但在上面的例句中，这个片语表示的意思是“所有的一切都步上轨道了，都准备就绪了。” when people have prepared well of all things they must do in order to try and achieve something, we can say they come together. 如：

Sydney’s Harbor Bridge, one of the most famous bridges in the world, looks so beautiful. I have decided nearly all the details to climb it. All are coming together nicely.
(译文：悉尼港口大桥，世界上最著名的大桥之一，看起来美极了。我已做好了攀登的各种准备，一切都步上了轨道。)

由于这个片语在表达“步上轨道”时往往指正在发生的事情，所以常用进行时态，如：

All things are coming together. I have ready prepared to go to visit my father-in-law.
(译文：一切都步上了轨道，我已经准备好去看望我的岳父了。)

结束语：在这一讲里，我们主要学习了两个片语。一个是you’re a natural, 意思是“你真是个天才。”下次奉承别人就可以用用它！第二个是come together, 意思是“准备好一切，一切都步上了轨道。”如果今天是重阳节，记得提上好酒好肉，让一切步上轨道去看看老丈人吧！

现在的年轻人在选择交往对象时已经不再像旧社会一样由父母做主了。他们往往自由的选择他们自己的对象，有的全然不顾父母的反对。先看看下面这句话是怎么描述的：

Love is a topic everyone wants to talk about. Now, many young people themselves make decisions about whom to date and marry. But in feudal society, they have no say in those things.
(译文：每个人都喜欢讨论爱情这个话题，现在许多年轻人自己决定与谁约会与结婚，但在封建社会，他们在这方面没有自主权。)

从上面这句话中我们可以看出片语have no say in something 的意思是“无权做主。”显然，从字面上看，在某事上没有发言权（have no say），当然就指没有权利就某事作决定了。If you have no say in something, then you have no right to take part in deciding something. 在第十讲中我们曾经介绍过write one’s own ticket这个片语，这里我们就合在一起写个句子。

The football player is so good, he can write his own ticket in the salary he wants, but he has no say in his ten-year contractual term.
(译文：这位优秀的足球运动员每年签约时可以自订身价，得到想要的薪水, 但在10年的合约期限上没有自主权。)

谈起合约又让我们想起旧社会那些契约婚姻。在当今社会，爱不需要合同，但需要承诺，恋爱中的人们承诺许多，誓言许多。但如果失言了，爱就会褪去往日斑斓的色彩。这里的失言英文中有一个相应的表达：Break one’s word. 直译为“打破某人的承诺”，往往指自己没有实现自己所许下的诺言。To break one’s word means to fail to keep a promise or not do what someone promised. 在翻译这个片语时我们还常使用一个比较通俗的说法：说话不算数。For example:

Jim always breaks his word. He makes promises he doesn’t keep.
(译文：吉米总是说话不算数，他许下承诺但不能实现。)

有时你和朋友说好要一起做一些事情，可临行前，朋友突然找了个不是理由的理由拒绝了你，你就可以用上这个片语了。看看下面这个人是怎么说的：

You betrayed me. You broke your word!
(译文:你背叛了我，你说话不算数。)

当然了，如果你不食言那就是keep your word了，keep one’s word意思是“守信。”

结束语：生活因希望和梦想而变得有激情,爱情因承诺和守信而变得美丽。在一些事情上你虽然have no say in it, 但是你千万不要break your word哦，做人总该诚信为本的。

Many Barcelona’s famous architects let their designs run wild. They abandoned straight lines in favor of curves and used themes and shapes from nature in designing their buildings.
(译文：许多巴塞罗那著名的建筑师在设计上尽情发挥,他们放弃直线而偏爱曲线，并且使用自然的主题和形状设计他的建筑。)

这里let something run wild的意思是“任某事无拘无束的尽情发挥。”常用来形容艺术家的作品。Run wild意思是“疯狂的跑”，朋友们想想，脱缰之马要是跑起来，那是什么情景？所以用这个片语来形容“尽情的发挥”是不是很贴切、形象呢？If something runs wild, it is not controlled and operates in an extremely free way. 再看一个例句：

Look at all of the clothes in this shop! The designers really let their imaginations run wild.
(译文：看看这个店里所有的服饰吧！这位设计者真的是尽情发挥了他的想象力。)

作为一位服装设计师，想象力是很关键的，即the imagination is the name of the game. 这里出现了我们今天要介绍的第二个片语：The name of the game. 它的意思是“在某一领域里最重要的因素。”为什么会是这个意思呢？也许在人家英美人看来，一个game最核心的就是其名字吧，所以用这个片语来表达这个意思。The idiom refers to the most important thing in a particular activity or situation. 好，还是来看个例句：

ZhangYimou, the most famous director in china, has a string of hits, what is the name of the game?
(译文：中国最有名的导演张艺谋取得了一连串的胜利。最关键的因素是什么？)

俗话说“要想富，先修路”，看看下面这个句子是怎么说的：

Our city develops at all aspects. The convenient traffic is the name of the game.  
(译文：我们的城市在各个方面都得到了发展，交通的便利性是关键)

结束语：这一讲里我们共学习了两个片语。一个是let something run wild, 它的意思是“让某事尽情发挥。”第二个片语the name of the game，它的意思是“某物是某事的关健因素。”你知道英语学习成功的关健因素是什么吗？也许每个人都有自己的说法，但我想“坚持不懈”肯定是其中之一。
