MNCA: No, I’m sorry.
RACH: Why didn’t he call? He’s gonna stay with Julie, isn’t he? He’s gonna stay with her and she’s going to be all, “Hi, I’m Julie, Ross picked me, and we’re gonna to get married, have a lot of kids and dig up stuff together.”
PHOE: No offense, but that sounds nothing like her.

瑞秋：罗斯打来过电话吗？
莫妮卡：抱歉，没有。

【世博视角】

相信大多数人平时都喜欢听别人说好话，可有的时候我们不得不实话实说，而实话往往会很伤人，所以在说这类话之前我们常常会来一句“不是我说你”或“不是我存心与你过不去”等等来表明自己的一个态度，英语中类似的表达法就是no offense, 作为名词offense本身就解释为“冒犯”，例如：

No offense, but I think you’re mistaken.
I’m not sure you’re the best person for the job. No offense, Charlie.

Chandler: Monica, it’s 6:30 in the morning. We’re not working out, it’s over.
Monica: No way, with one pound to go, c’mon. We’re workin’, we’re movin’, we’re in the zone we’re groovin’.

钱德乐：莫妮卡，现在是早上六点半，我们不锻炼，到此为止了。
莫妮卡：没门，你还有一磅的肉要减，快啦，我们锻炼，我们运动，我们正在状态，我们一起来活动。

【世博视角】

说到锻炼身体或健身，很多人可能马上就会想到exercise这个词，其实在口语中老美一般都是用 work out这个词组，比如说你碰到了一个很久没见面的朋友，发现他好像长了不少肌肉，你就可以问他说：Have you been working out?（你是不是一直在健身？） work out还有其他一些用法，比如把什么事情做出来了，像计划、协议之类的，如：

You have to work out a plan before it’s too late. 你得乘早把计划做出来。
Our marriage didn’t work out. 我们的婚姻没有成功。

另外，这个词组也可以合并成为一个名词 workout, 譬如有些人每天会去健身中心锻炼：have a daily workout in the gym.

在对话中，Monica的回答里出现了好几个口语表达法。首先一个no way, 这就是我们中文中常说的“没门”的意思，如：No way can I forget what he did. 在比较正式的场合我们也可以说there is no way…，如：There’s no way our candidate can lose.（我们的候选人绝对不会落选。）接下来Monica又说了一句We’re in the zone. in the zone 字面解释是“在这个地区里面”，其实它是个习语，意思是“某人因为聚精会神而表现颇佳”，如：a goalie who was in the zone throughout the playoffs(一位在决赛场次中始终状态良好的守门员)。 最后来看一下groove这个词，一般作名词用，以前的老式唱片上有一条条细细的凹槽，那就是groove，不过在俚语中groove可以表示令人兴奋，节奏感很强的音乐，还可作动词用，表示好好享受，如：just sitting around, grooving on the music.

Make a day of it 这个习语的意思是花一天的时间好好地享受一下，做些有趣的事情，比如我们来到了海滩上那就要和大海多亲近亲近：Now that we’re at the beach, let’s make a day of it. 对于那些习惯夜生活的人来说，晚上才是活动的最佳时间，所以这个习语也可以说成是make a night/evening of it, 当然有时候说这句话也可能是因为不得已，比如说：

Since they missed the seven o’clock train, they decided to make a night of it.

既然他们错过了七点的火车，他们决定去找点乐子。

另外，在生活中我们总会碰到这样一些人，他们见谁都特别热情，可这种热情一看就是假装出来的，丝毫没有诚意，phony这个词就是专门用来这些人的，比如：I don’t trust him – I think he’s a phony. 除了指人以外，phony还可以用来形容其它虚假的东西，如 “假笑” He gives everyone the same phony ‘Mr Nice Guy’ smile. “假地址”He gave the hotel a phony address.
