如果回家晚了，你是否告诉你的爱人你干什么去了？上班迟到了，你是否讲清楚其原因？对于生活中的某些事情我们是必须要“老实交代的。” 对了，这里我们就可以用上这样一个片语：level with someone, 它的意思是“向某人说实话。” 如：

A: Please level with me, Rob, what do you think about my advice of modifying the design of the building?
  B: Frankly, it’s a good idea.
(译文：
A：坦白告诉我，Rob,你认为我对这个建筑物设计的修改如何？
　B：说实话，它是个不错的主意。）

大家知道level是“水平的，平齐的，平等的”之意。坦言告诉别人你做了什么时，有没有一点点平等的意味呢？level with someone 从字面上看， 意思是“与某人在同一平面上，”引申意义为“向某人说实话”。If you level with someone, you speak honestly to someone, trying to make them believe something to be true. For example:

Leveling with everyone around you is important, thus you can get trust from him.
（译文：对你身边的人坦白相对就能获得他们的信任。）

接下来我们来看看今天要介绍的第二个片语: to each one’s own. 首先来看下面的对话：

A: I think your cloth looks terrible.
B: To each his own! I think my cloth is great.
(译文：
A：我认为你的衣服很难看。
B：个人的喜好不同嘛!我觉得我的衣服很好看呢!)

这里又出现了一个新的片语：To each one’s own, 它的意思是“各人的喜好不同。”俗话说萝卜白菜各有所爱，讲的就是这个意思！这个片语直译过来就是“（属于）每个（人）自己的。” The phrase used to say that we all have different ideas about how to do things, what we like etc, especially when you do not agree with someone else’s choice. 我们再看个句子。

To each his own! Marlin always mixes vinegar to everything else she eat, what can we say?
(译文：萝卜白菜各有所爱，Marlin总是把醋加到她吃的所有食物上，我们又能说些什么呢？)

结束语：今天我们共学习了两个片语。To each one’s own意思是“各人有各人的喜好，”也可以直接译为“萝卜白菜各有所爱。”注意one’s 一般使用his（her）或者their，而不用别的词！To level with someone的意思是“和某人讲实话。”读小学时我们抄袭别人的作业，从来没有level with teachers, 可是结果却害了自己，如今落得这个悲惨状况也只能怪自己了，所谓“少壮不努力，未老徒伤悲”啊！

你知道为什么在面试时，小伙子们总是西装革履，而那些女性朋友总是一套得体的职业装吗？把自己收拾得整洁大方，才能给人留下一个稳重而成熟的印象，这时你就可以说上这么一句：

“leave it up to me, trust me!”
(译文：“相信我，包在我身上，没有问题的”。“

在这个句子中，我们看到一个很流行的说法：Leave it up to me. 从字面上理解，leave it是“留下它”的意思，up to me含有“由我来决定“的意思，所以整个片语的意思就是“包在我身上、我会成功的完成任务。” If you tell other people with the phrase, leave it up to me, you show them that you will finish something successfully！假如有一天你请你的朋友吃饭，你的男朋友告诉你要为你们买单，可饭局结束，他才发现自己根本没有带钱包。这时你就可以用上下面一句话了：

“leave it up to me. I said they’re my friends, so I’ll pay the bill!”
（译文：我来吧！我说过他们是我的朋友，所以我来付账。）

如果真的那样，我想，你的男友当时真的是down in the dumps了。这里的down in the dumps是什么意思？首先来看一看下面的例句。

Blake was really down in the dumps after his boss had shouted at him, he really felt depressed and frustrated.
(译文：布莱克非常的沮丧。老板吼了他一顿，他真的感到很伤心和失落心烦。)

大家知道dump是“倾倒(垃圾)”的意思，从字面上理解，如果你被down到垃圾里，够不够沮丧的? 所以不难理解，片语down in the dumps的意思就是“如跌入谷底的、非常沮丧的”。Some people sometimes are down in the dump, then they are very sad and without much interest in life.

在我们看另一个例子之前，先看turn to 这个片语。在下面这个句子中，它的意思是“求助”。

The best advantage about joining the organization is that you have someone to turn to when you’re down in the dumps.
(译文：加入这个组织最有利的就是当你跌入谷底时可以向人求助。)

结束语：今天我们主要学习了两个片语。一个是leave it up to me,　意思是“包在我身上”，自信的人们何不用用呢？比如看到一个漂亮妹妹，你就可以向其他哥们儿夸下海口：我来搞定她: Leave it up to me! 另一个是down in the dumps, 意思是“非常沮丧的”。注意，dumps在这里一般都用的是复数。另外，Ok,简单的作了一小结，see you!

一次美丽的邂逅，往往就发生在你最需要帮助的时候。记得在念书的时候，有一回在人民公园，迎面走来一位pretty foreign girl, 我灵机一动，冒了一句 “Excuse me, could you do the honors?” 那女孩睁大了蓝色的眼睛看着我，茫然不知所措。

“I mean if you could help us to take a picture,”I said.

后来才明白，这个女孩原来来自德国，在外国语大学攻读中文，对英文只是略懂一二！最后，她终于明白了我的意思，并帮我拍了张照片。对了，朋友们知道这里的do the honors是什么意思吗？一般地，do the honors 通常指“尽地主之宜”。大家都知道honor是尊敬的意思，通常情况下在一个家庭中，像介绍客人，盛鸡汤，斟酒等事宜都由长者来完成，所以长者就是在做一件值得尊敬或尊重的事，自然do the honors意思就演变为“尽地主之宜”的意思了，有时特指接下一份荣誉的工作。所以除了我们要请人帮忙时用这个习语外，当我们请某人做一件有意义的事时也可以用它呢！在举例子前我们先看一个生词片语：talk someone into doing something，它的意思“说服某人做某事。”

It’s important to try to talk crowd here into being quiet. I think it’s no doubt that you are the only one that could do the honors.
(译文：尽量的使这儿的人们安静下来很重要，毫无疑问，只有你才是最佳人选。)

对于德国，起初我是没有什么特别记忆的。可是自从和那位德国女孩简单的谈论之后，the country, Germany, is growing on me! 这里我用了一个片语：grow on， 它的意思是“渐渐令某人喜欢上。” If something grows on you, you gradually like it more and more. 比如有一个地方刚开始时你不喜欢，但后来你却渐渐的喜欢上了，这时你就可以用这个片语。看看下面这段话，体会一下其用法吧!

Do you like the city you’re working in? When I came to the place after graduating from university, I didn’t like it because of the bad weather and the inconvenient traffic. But now it’s growing on me because of the kind people who always try their best to help you when you are in trouble. On the other hand, the freeway had been built by the end of last year, we can see more and more beautiful women drive cars and say hello to us. Don’t you enjoy this kind of life? I enjoy it, but till now I haven’t had a car…
(译文:你喜欢现在工作的城市吗？当我从学校毕业来到这个地方时，我并不喜欢他，因为这儿天气不好，交通也不便。但现在我渐渐的喜欢上了这个城市，因为当你处于困难时，这儿的人们总是尽力帮助你。另外，高速公路也在去年年底建成通车了，我们能看到越来越多的漂亮Mm向你打着招呼。你喜欢这种生活吗？我喜欢，可我直到现在还没有车？！)

结束语：今天我们学了两个片语。一个是do the honors指“尽地主之宜”，常用来指“帮个忙或接下一份荣誉的工作”，注意honor必须要用复数形式honors. 另一个是grow on someone, 它的意思是“渐渐令某人喜欢上。”注意这个片语只能用于主动语态，fox example, 我们只能说the city is growing on me, 而不能说I’m growing on the city.
