世博英语脱口秀【10】如何赞扬别人

美语朗读
精彩讲解

In America, it’s common to give praise to someone who has achieved success in his or her life. If you hear that someone has received a promotion at work, won a contest, or been admitted into a good college for example, it’s a good idea to congratulate them on their success. But how should you approach the subject? “Hey, I heard that you…” is a good, casual way to begin commenting on someone’s success. Keep your praise short and casual. Many people are too modest to accept praise comfortably. Sound genuine, and say things that you really mean. People can always tell if someone doesn’t mean what he or she says, so be honest in your praise and not too lavish!

Tina: You have nothing to be afraid of. You speak fluent English.
Tony: But I’m afraid my vocabulary is not large enough.
Tina: I don’t think so, Tony. Do you know how many words make up 45% of everything published in English?
Tony: Several thousands, I guess.
Tina: 50.
Tony: Get out of here! It’s impossible!
Tina: It’s a simple fact. And native speakers only need about 3000 words for their daily life.
Tony: Well then, perhaps I don’t have to be too worried since my vocabulary is larger than that.
