Take sth. for granted & Feel a connection to someone/sth.

It is wrong for some people to take others’ help for granted.

If you take something for granted, you believe that it is true or accept it as normal without think about it.

People were amazed that the champion they took for granted didn’t happen among Chinese team.

One day, one of my workmates brought a little dog to me. I always attached to it when I went everywhere, and no long time later, I felt a connection to it.

If you say you feel a connection to someone or something, you mean you understand each other very easily and seem to be linked with each other. 比如:

John really feels a connection to me,for many characteristics we have are extraordinarily similar.

Take something for granted的意思是 “认为理所当然,对∙∙∙不予重视”;feel a connection to something的意思是“与∙∙∙心灵相通”。

Cross the line & Cut corners

In many situations it is important to go with the flow. You need to be flexible to others’ behaviors. But sometimes you have to stick to your colors when they cross the line.

If you say someone crosses the line, you mean what he or she has done is too fulsome and does not suit with his or her status.

He is only a secretary, but when our leader is on a business trip he always crosses the line and shouts at everyone. Everybody scorns him for his behaviors.

Don’t try to cut corners when learning English. Stepping every step steadfastly is right attitude.

The idiom means to do something in a way that saves time, effort, or money, but that also results in it not following the correct procedure or rules for doing something, for example:

We have to cut corners to keep the question clear. The best way is to hang up this picture, which explains what the question really means.

Go with the flow & Stick to one’s colors

I’m going to eat Chinese food this night, but everyone sticks to eating Italian food. Without any way to persuade them, I have to go with the flow.

To go with the flow is to agree that you will do the thing that most people want to do.

He is a coward who always goes with the flow.

In many situations it is important to go with the flow. You need to be flexible to others’ behaviors. But sometimes you have to stick to your colors when they cross the line.

在这个例句中,我们看到两个新的片语stick to one’s colors 和cross the line, 今天先讲第一个片语(cross the line由下一讲详细讲解)。 If you stick to your colors, it means you adhere to your opinion. For example:

Sometimes it will show others that you respect yourself to stick to your colors.
