特殊难点

1.as 的不同含义

(1) 它可以解释为 “因为” 或是 “由于”，相当于because, 但其强调的程度要比because弱；as所表示的的理由是明显的或是已知的：

I cannot come as I am busy.

As nobody liked to talk to her, she felt completely left out in the cold.

由于没人愿意与她谈话，所以她觉得倍受冷落。

(2) As也可以用来引导时间状语：

As I was leaving the house, the postman brought a letter.

与when和while相比，as 更强调两个动作的相并性，常译成 “随着…” “一边…一边”,

We get wiser as we get older. 随着年龄的增长，我们变得更有头脑。

The pupils sang happily as they walked along the lake.

学生们一边沿着湖边走，一边愉快地歌唱。

(3) as 还可以做介词，解释为 “以…的身份” “作为”：

He works an as engineer.

The kitty uses that box as a bed. 小猫把那盒子当作床

2.Dress, Suit , and Costume

(1)dress “女服”、“女礼服”

a wedding dress 结婚礼服

My sister brought a new dress yesterday.

(2)suit “男装”、“(一套)衣服”

a three-piece suit 三件套

a skirt suit 一套裙装

My brother never wears ready-made suits.

(3)costume是指在特别场合下穿的 “服装”, 如演员的戏服，化装舞会上所穿的衣服等：

All the actors wore the fifteenth-century costumes.

Our host was wearing a clown costume. 我们的主人穿着一件小丑的服装。

3.Grow & Grow Up

(1)grow 指人或动植物的 “生长”，“成长”:

Children grow quickly. The grass has grown very high.

(2)grow up 是个动词词组，指人 “长大成人”、“思想上成熟”

I’m going to be a pilot when I grow up. 我长大后想当飞行员。

(3)grown up 是个形容词词组，侧重表示 “思想上，行为上的成熟”；grown-up 则是名词，表示 “成年人”:

Her children are grown up now. 她的孩子现在都已长大了。

A children under 7 is not allowed to cross the street unless there is a grown-up with him.

7岁以下的儿童不准横穿马路，除非有大人带着。
