1.Give 词组

(1)give back 把…还给

He returned with my bag and gave it back to me.

(2)give in

a.( = hand in ) 交；递：

give in / hand in resignation 递交辞呈

b.( =surrender )投降，屈服，让步

The only way to win the war is to keep fighting and never giving in to the enemy.

打赢战争的唯一办法就是打到底，绝不要向敌人投降。

(3)give away 将…送给

I gave away my collection of stamps to the little boy.

(4)give up 放弃；戒除

give up smoking and drinking. 戒烟、戒洒

We’ll have to give up the search. 我们将不得不放弃搜索

(5)give oneself up (to) 屈服；自首

He gave himself up to the police. 他向警方自首了。

2.Beside & Besides

(1)beside (=next to) 在…旁边

come and sit beside me.

(2)besides 另外还有，除…之外还有

Besides this photograph, I have a number of others.

比较：Besides & Except

All of us passed except John. (=John didn’t pass)

除约翰以外，我们都通过了。

All of us passed besides John. (=John passed, too)

除约翰通过外，我们都通过了。

Besides 表示 “除…之外还有”、 “另外还有”, 宾语是被包括在内的。

Except表示 “除去”, 宾语不包括在内。
