quake

Definition定义：

v. 1. To shake or tremble, usually because you are very frightened 因害怕而颤抖，发抖
2. if the earth, a building etc quakes, it shakes violently. 震动；颤动

Examples 例：

1. She was quaking with fright. 她因恐惧而颤抖。
2. The explosion made the whole house quake. 爆炸使得整栋房子都在震动。

英语中表示颤抖、发抖意义的动词有好几个，现以quake, quiver, shiver, shake, tremble和shudder为例，从各自的搭配上来分辨词义和用法。

Quake一般因为如下原因而发抖：cold, fear, fright, laughter冷、害怕、恐惧、大笑

Quiver一般因为这些原因而发抖：cold, fright, frustration, emotion, rage, excitement冷、恐惧、挫折、愤怒的情绪、愤怒、激动。

Shiver一般因为这些原因发抖：cold, fear, ague冷、害怕、疟疾（某种病）。

Shudder一般因为这些原因而发抖：cold, fear, horror, disgust, horrible things(blood, dead bodies, a bad person, or some actions like kissing, or some bad memories.)。

此外，shake和tremble是用途最为广泛的词汇，以上提到的各种原因均可以与这两个词汇搭配使用。

在句子结构上，shudder这个动词似乎表示的颤抖极其短暂，因而过去发生的动作往往使用一般过去时。如：
She shuddered at the memory of the car accident. 她因想到那场车祸而颤抖。

而其他的动词则常常可以使用过去进行时来强调发抖的厉害程度，如：

He was trembling with exhaustion. 他因为精疲力竭而颤抖。
