Lesson 29 Taxi 1. The ‘taxi’ is a small Swiss aeroplane called a ‘Pilatus Porter’. a. taxi加引号是因为它不是一辆真正的出租汽车而是飞机。 b. 在意思上和一个定语从句差不多,即which is called a ‘Pilatus Porter’。 It can land on a ploughed field. He landed in a deserted car park. 2.The most surprising thing about it,however, is that it can land anywhere:on snow, water, or even on a ploughed field. The plane will land in five minutes. The pilot landed the plane. The ship landed the goods at Shanghai. That will land him in prison. The ball landed in the lake. 3. 打 He landed a blow in my eyes. 3. Word study Lonely 1. The old man led a lonely life after his wife died. The lonely old man worked his life away like a work horse. The honest villagers came from a lonely village. He lives alone in the flat but he never feels lonely. I just wanted to stay at home alone. Keep me alone. I feel lonely living away from home. Block 1. 街区,一块地方 Turn left after 2 blocks. 3.障碍物;阻塞 a block in the pipes 管道阻塞 a road block 路障 Recently the professor often has a memory block. The police have blocked the road. My nose is all blocked up and I can hardly breathe. The earth is round, not flat. The lesson is too flat to attract any student. The company has a flat sale this month. He was late again because the flat tire. Although he drove flat out, he fell flat in the race. A block of ice(一块冰) It’s three blocks to the store form here.3个街区,也就是要过3条马路。 这点需要大家注意,其中flat(英国用法)和apartment(美语用法)是对应的,都是指“公寓房”的意思。 Desert 1. They deserted all their arms when running away. TEXT 1.Occasion 表示“场合,情况”的时候与介词on搭配 On one occasion 有一次 On another occasion 另一次 On several occasions 屡次,有几次 例如:a man (with long hair )(介词短语) (留长发的)男人 a car (damaged in a storm)(过去分词短语) (毁于风暴的)汽车 a plane (flying in the sky)(现在分词短语) (在空中翱翔的)飞机 a house (to be painted )(动词不定式短语) (将要粉刷的)房子 a student (late for school)(形容词短语) (上学迟到的)学生 everything( that I have)(定语从句) (我拥有的)一切东西 句型模仿: 1. When did you see Tim?—in January I saw Tim in January, but I haven’t seen him since then. 2. When did he read this book?—last week He read this book last week, but he hasn’t read it since then. 3. When did she meet him?—in 1993 She met him in 1993, but he hasn’t met him since then. 4. When did he wake up?—at one o’clock He woke up at one o’clock, but she hasn’t woken up since then. 5.When did you hear from him?—at Christmas I heard from him at Christmas , but I haven’t heard from him since then. 6. hen did he sleep here?—two nights ago He slept here two night ago, but he hasn’t slept here since then. 7. When did she sweep the floor?—on Wednesday She swept the floor on Wednesday, but she hasn’t swept it since then. 8. When did you think about it—yesterday I thought about it yesterday, but I haven’t thought about it since then. 9.When did he teach them?—in 1996 He taught them in 1996, but he hasn’t taught them since then. 10. When did she notice it?—last week She noticed it last week, but she hasn’t noticed it since then.
