第九十五课 A fantasy 纯属虚构

1.Ambassador 大使 embassy大使馆
An ambassador lives in an embassy.大使住在大使馆里面。

2．How did your clothes get into such a mess? 你的衣服怎么搞得一塌糊涂？
mess 表示“脏乱状态”时通常与in连用或与 get into连用
When he returned from the company, the dog had got the room into a terrible mess.当他从公司下班回家时，那只狗把房间搞的一团糟。

3.‘University students set the Embassy on fire this morning.. 今天上午大学生们放火点着了大使馆。
set on fire 为固定短语，表示“使……燃烧”、“放火烧……”：
They set the houses of the enemy on fire.他们放火点了敌人的营房。
Have you found out who set that on fire?你们是否已经查出是谁烧了那座大楼？

4.Good heavens!天那！等于My God!
exclaim 惊叫
claim 要求，主张
disclaim 放弃，弃权
proclaim 宣布，声明

5.as usual 象通常一样
After the love affair,she still lives as usuall.绯闻过后，她仍然象往常那样生活。

6.The fire broke out in the basement. 地下室突然着火。
break out 可以指火灾、战争等“突然发生”、“爆发
World War I broke out in 1914.第一次世界大战于 1914年爆发。
basement 地下室

7.I went down immediately
immediately 立即，马上 等于at once
When there goes the bell,the students go out of the classroom,and rushed to the dining room.下课铃声响起的时候，学生们冲出教室，奔向食堂。

8.aim…at,用……瞄准。
The solider never aims his gun at the goals before his firing.这名士兵从来射击前不瞄准。

9.get that fellow posted,把那个家伙派走。post可以与 letter, parcel等名词连用，表示“寄”。如果把 post与人连用时，仅指把人“派往”政府的一个新职位。

10.go on doing 表示继续同样的事情，
go on+ 不定式则指做不同的事.
After eatting the breakfast, she went on to study.吃过早饭后，她就开始学习了。
后面如果接动词ing则表示继续进行相同的事情。

11.If I had been, I would not have been able to get home for lunch.如果真戴着它，我现在就不能回家来吃午饭了。
这是与过去事实相反的假设，虚拟语气，基本结构是 if+had+过去完成时，sb/sth.+would（主句）
