IELTS Sample Essay
by Mr. Jeenn Lee Hsieh for www.360abc.com IELTS writing task 2 Children are the impressions of their parent's behavior. If a child behaves badly, his parents should be considered responsible and should be punished. How far you agree with this? Bad parenting often brings about bad results: children behaving badly. Many problems of juvenile deliquency may end nowhere, but they mostly start at home. It is worth further examination whether teenagers should be excused from being punished as adults on the ground of having immature minds. This question gives rise to yet another question. How about punishing adults who father them? The cause and effect of juvenile deliquency must be analyzed in such a way that involves parental responsibility. Whatever the cause, it seems all at once that every sector concerned has its share of responsibility, with the ironic exception of teenagers who commit offenses. Parents are sometimes ignorant of what their children are hiding. But it does not mean they are free from the guilt. In my opinion, parents are as guilty as their deliquent sons and daughters, and perhaps even more so. The current judicial system has obviously failed because niether teenagers nor their parents are to be punished. What's worse. The court provides special status and treatment for young offenders. Their identities are protected and their records barred from public view. That comes near immunity. Parents are of couse to blame at least in part for the dreadful offenses committed by their sons and daughters. If not they, who else? And how a juvenile has become a deliquent without the knowledge of responsible adults? They fail to tell whether teenagers 'have' problems or 'are' problems. Such parents seem immature like their children, refusing to believe that their kids are capable of getting trouble with the law. It is futile to avert the rising tide of crimes without holding parents accountable for crimes commited by youth, in spite of forces joined by government organizations, social assistance agencies, psychology experts, sports groups, churches and courts. In view of this, punishments of some kind must apply to parents accordingly. It is true that criminalizing parents is not the best thing to do. I keep wondering, however, if it is not a natural job for parents to train children the right way, instill values of good behavior, or simply set good examples. Children follow examples. The see, hear, learn. When things go bad with their children, they should be obliged to pay a price for damage done to society. I would like to recommend, to begin with, that the names of juvenile deliquents and those of their parents be identified just to show what kind of parents they are. 本教程由来自台湾大学和智利大学的谢振礼老师为世博英语网站独家撰写,旨在提高大家托福雅思写作的实战水平。未经谢振礼老师和世博英语授权,其他媒体和个人不得转载!
