美国高中的作文老师，常用这句陈腔滥调的警语，提醒学生写作时，保持文体简捷。

1. In the Test of Written English--TOEFL TWE--you will have 30 minutes to plan, write and make any necessary changes to your essay. In the IELTS writing task 2, in compasion, you will have about 40 minutes to do the same thing.
托福大作文30分钟。雅思40分钟。先想再写。写完了要校对。

2. Read the topic carefully. You may want to read it more than once to be sure you understand what you are asked to write about.
仔细读作文题目。最少要读两遍，才能确定题意。

3. Think before you write. It is prudent to outline your essay or make notes.
首先要破题构思。最好写大纲，并做小笔记。

4. Write it clearly and precisely. How well you write is much more important than how much you write, but to cover the topic adequately, you may need to write more than one paragraph.
写作文的时候，力求清楚简明。宁可写得好，不必写得长。最少些两段。

5. Check your work. Allow a few minutes before time is called to read your over your essay and make any changes.
写完了要校对。花几分钟把作文检查一遍，该改就改。

谢振礼个人的建议是按照中国人的作文老规矩，写四段--起承转合。如此，必然能应付各种题型。英语不是我们的母语，大部分的中国考生，还没写就有压力，觉得时间不够用。扣除构思在前，校对在后。托福作文的30分钟，可用来写四段的时间，大约只剩25分钟。所幸是机考，打字比较快。雅思笔考，比较慢多了。扣除构思及校对，只剩32分钟。当然，时间的安排因人而异，没有硬性规定。个展本事。

心想大纲--主题，结构，内容。回答问题，就有主题。结构四段--前后连贯。各段内容，支持主题。
手出英文--用语，用句，用字。语言生动，句型变化，用字恰当。英语是外语，写得道地，很不容易。背后的努力是勤于阅读，认识文法，时做翻译，不忘写作。阅读能起动写作。文法能规范写作。翻译能引导写作。写作能改善写作。中国人学英文写作，贵在自修，外教帮不上大忙。
