A Hollywood producer（制片人） was determined to give his mother a birthday gift that would be better than any his brothers were giving her. He heard about an amazing bird, which could talk in twelve languages and sing ten famous operas（歌剧）. He immediately bought the bird and sent it to his mother．It cost him＄50，000.

一位好莱坞制片人决定送给他母亲一份生日礼物，那将比他的兄弟们送的任何礼物都要好。他听说有一只令人惊异的鸟能说十二种语言，能唱十种著名歌剧，便立即买下了这只鸟，寄给了他的母亲。这花了他五万美元。

The day after her birthday，he phoned his mother．“What did you think of the bird， Mother？”He asked eagerly（热切地）．His mother replied（回答），“Delicious！”

他母亲生日的翌日，他打电话给她。“妈妈，您觉得那只鸟儿怎么样？”他急切地问。他母亲回答说：“味道好极了！”

1．Hear可以和许多介词组成短语动词，这里为大家介绍两个常用的。

（1）hear about听说、得知，如：
I've just heard about his illness.
我刚听说他生病的事。

（2）hear from收到……的信或电报，如：
I haven't heard from him since he telephoned.
自从那次他来电话后,我一直没有收到他的来信。

2．Amazing

（1）表示惊讶、难以置信的意思，如：
It was amazing that the boy was able to solve the problem so quickly.
那男孩能这样快地解完这道题,真是令人惊奇。

（2）形容吸引人的物品，如：
I am always looking for new and amazing items.
我总是在寻找让我眼前一亮的新东西。

sth. cost sb. …
某样东西花费某人……（钱）
*注意：在这个句型中，主语是“物”，宾语是“人”。

The car cost him around ten thousand US dollars.
这车花去他一万美元左右。

A new computer costs a lot of money, you know.
你知道，买一台新电脑要花一大笔钱。

*额外收获

doing sth. cost sb. some time意思就是“做某事花费某人……时间”。如：
Remembering these new words of this unit cost him plenty of time.
他花了大量时间才记住了这一单元的单词。

*友情提示：cost的过去式及过去分词都是cost,并且不能用于被动句。

短语hear of也有“听说”的意思，那么和hear about的区别在哪里呢？

请看下面两个例子：
Have you heard about the accident?
你听说那场事故了吗？
I haven't heard of her for a long time。
我好久没有她的消息了。

即hear about后常接事件之类的名词，而hear of后则常接人或事物。
