Everyone knows that New York City’s World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists, but very few people know the story of how the twin towers first came to be.

每个人都指到纽约世贸大厦被恐怖分子袭击，可了解双子大楼历史的人却是寥寥无几。

The idea for the building came from millionaire（百万富翁） banker David Rockefeller. Completed（完成） in 1973, the tower were said to mark the beginning of the information age. Since that time, the idea of the New York Trade Center has been copied the world over.

这双子大楼的主意就是美国著名的巨富银行家David Rockefeller（大卫 洛克菲勒）想出来的。建成于1973年的大楼，被称作信息时代的标志。自从那时起，纽约世贸大楼的这种建筑模式就被全世界抄袭着。

They were believed to be able to survive anything short of a nuclear（原子核的） attack. While this symbol（象征） of power and money has fallen, the global economy it helped create continues.

1．terror是名词，可以指对某事“恐怖”，如：
My elder sister has a terror of fire.

terror也可以指“恐怖行动”，参加恐怖行动的人就是terrorist（恐怖分子），恐怖主义就是terrorism。 “911恐怖袭击”似乎成为了一个专有名词，经常被人们这样提起：September 11th terrorism attacks。

2．since是介词，意思是“自...以来,从...至今”，后面接一个时间的起点，从时间上看是一个从过去一直持续到现在的过程，和现在完成时或过去完成时连用。如：
I haven't heard from him since last year.
我自去年以来未曾收到过他的信。
They have been good friends since then.
从那时起他们就一直是好朋友。

表示能力这一意义时can和be able to基本相同, 但can只有两个时态即现在时(can)与过去时(could)而be able to有多种形式。如：

He can read in English.
他能用英语阅读。

需要注意的是，对未来的能力做决定时, 一般用can，如：
We're too busy today, but we can repair your can tomorrow.
今天我们太忙, 但明天我们能给你修车。
