The author could not find her bag after her meal at a village pub. She could not pay the bill. The landlord soon found it for her. His dog had taken it into the garden. (35字)

概括型版本:

The author could not find her bag to pay the bill for her meal in a village pub. The landlord found the bag for her because his dog had taken it into the garden. (34字)

2、作文

本次选用了宋海春的作文。

After I had had lunch in a student cafeteria in a university, I went to see the campus. It was a very famous university and there were many tall trees and old buildings. It was so beautiful that I wanted to take a picture. Just then, I realized that I had left my camera on the table in the cafeteria. I hurried back. To my sadness, it wasn't there! As I was about to leave, the manager came over and said, "Are you looking for your camera? Here it is. We are keeping it for you. People always leave things in our cafeteria."

二、摘要写作

1、写摘要的方法

从上一次课开始,我们首先快速阅读课文,然后合上书,再将能够记住的主要内容写出来。我把这种写摘要方法称为快速阅读法摘要,实际运用时有两种情况,一种是阅读以后自己靠记忆写摘要,有时候可以对照原文写摘要。但从训练的效果来看,前一种方法显然比较好。可以锻炼我们快速找到重要信息、记住它们并且用自己的话摘要介绍的能力。希望大家坚持练习。

此外,如果有条件,可以听一遍磁带,然后写摘要。这种方法姑且称之为听写法摘要。主要目的是要求大家注重听到的内容,而不是一个个单词,也不仅仅是某一句话。平时,我们听别人说话,也往往是听别人的意思,很少有人去注意每一个字词。当然,在获取时间、地点、人物、经过、后果等重要信息时,我们会注意一些关键词或关键句子。所以,这个练习对训练我们的记忆力也有好处。我们在记住一些关键词、关键句子的同时,按照故事的情节将这些词句串联起来,就能够简明扼要地写出摘要。要注意的是,做这种练习一定要只听一遍。否则意义不大。

有条件的可以经常使用各种方法进行练习,每一种方法各有特点,但对写作、对英文水平的全面提高都有帮助。关键是要坚持一段时间。

2、合并法摘要
继续按照前面的合并句子的方法来练习摘要写作。自己根据课文内容,将可以合并的句子合并,去掉一些细节,篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。答案见下期。

3、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括,先给出后面一句,请大家做出前面一句。答案见下期。

三、本课重点:对话和指代

对话的写法要注意几个问题,首先要学会常用的关于“说”的动词:say, exclaim.此外,常用的如:shout(叫),murmur(低声说),cry(叫、哭喊),complain(抱怨说)。另外就是“问”和 “答”,分别是ask和answer.这些词汇平时要注意积累,而且要注意哪些词可以用来修饰这些关于“说”的动词。如课文里的“I said sadly”中的“sadly”,如果说话的时候很高兴,可以说“I said happily”。

其次,要注意“某人说”放在什么位置,一般有三种:
1、放在前面:He looked at me and complained, “Why does she have two tickets?”
2、放在后面:“This play may begin at any moment,” I said.
3、放在中间:“Certainly, ” the girl said, “but they’re for next Wednesday’s performance. Do you still want them?”

四、作文线索

本课主要用对话的形式讲述了“票已售完”(Sold out)这件事情。虽然对话很简单,却把故事写得一波三折。

She complained that she didn’t have anything to wear.
I said in a hurry that the party wasn’t that important. And that a dress would do.
She needed a necklace. She asked me to find it in the drawer.
I told her there was no necklace in the drawer and asked her where she left it last time.
She cried out that she had left it in her office.
I murmured that perhaps we could simply forget it.
Then she exclaimed that she had found it on top of the TV.
