A Surprise
Yesterday I received a letter from Susan. Susan is one of my old friends. She lives in Beijing. In the letter, she said that she would come to Guangzhou for a business trip next month. I was very delighted when I learned the news. We haven’t seen each other for about five years. Five years ago, Susan came to see me. I was in very bad condition at that time. I had to live in a small dorm with two other girls. There was no bathroom or kitchen. We had to have instant noodles everyday. In Summer, the weather was too hot for us to stay in the dorm. Everything is changed now. I am living in an apartment. There are one sitting room, one dining room and two bedrooms. There is a modern kitchen, too. With the electronic equipment in the kitchen, I can easily make a meal within 30 minutes. And there’s an air conditioner in every room. Susan would not feel hot though it is July. I told Susan she could stay with me. I was not going to tell her all about my new apartment. I wanted to give her a surprise.

三、本课重点：标点符号（三）

现在来学习英文中分号和冒号的使用。
分号的最基本使用方法是分断意思：
1、Everyone’s losing money these days; there is still some honesty in this world.
2、Life is short; death is inevitable.
3、It is easy to be sympathetic; meanwhile, nobody really wants to help the poor.
4、She is an honest person; therefore, be nice to her.
5、We are often unhappy with this wicked world; in fact, everybody complains so much every day.
6、At the party were Mark, a manager; Margaret, the secretary; two security guards, both strongly built; and the cunning accountant that no one seemed to like.

现在看冒号的使用方法。冒号跟分号截然不同，一般不是为了分断意思，而是像个指针一样，将冒号前面的句子指向冒号后面的内容，通常预示着后面是举例或强调说明，或者是个进一步的解释。

1、When you read an article, you have to get all the necessary information: who, what, when, where, why, and how.
2、I am not satisfied with your hotel: I have lost my wallet here.
3、We have reasons to complain a lot: everyone’s losing money these days.

四、作文线索

本课写的是在旅馆住宿时50英镑失而复得的故事。看来，到处都有雷锋，从这一点上来说，雷锋是个平凡的人物，他所做的是平凡的事情，这篇故事里的雷锋也没有留下姓名，只是一个小姑娘而已。而整篇课文所用的语言也是极其平凡的。我们需要学会的也就是使用简明易懂的语言讲述故事的能力。使用最简单的词汇通过对人物的动作、语言等的描写，让读者了解人物的心理、性格和待人接物的方式，这样也就能更好地描述平凡人的生活。
