第八十二课 Monster or fish? 是妖还是鱼？

一、摘要写作

1、摘要练习

分别使用快速阅读法、听写法和合并法练习写摘要。

将合并句子写的摘要贴到会员社区。自己根据课文内容，将可以合并的句子合并，去掉一些细节，篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。

2、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括，请大家自己做。

从第三十一课开始，我不再提供摘要练习的答案。请大家认真做好摘要练习，这是提高表达能力，进而提高写作能力，特别是围绕中心进行写作的好方法。希望大家坚持，我会在会员社区帮大家修改摘要，并且适当做一些讲评，选出比较好的摘要供大家参考。

二、本课重点：文章衔接的手段[8]

上一讲我们谈到了所谓的换言之的连接方法，用in other words等短语或词汇来连接句子。类似的还有举例的方法，可以表示这种连接。如：
1. He can be a very caring person. For example, he would always remember your birthday. And he never forgets your favorite food either.
2. Friendship is something you miss so much when it’s missing. For instance, you might feel for the first time how important it is when you live alone in another country.
3. John has said many things against drugs. To illustrate, he was proposing another strict bill last Sunday.
4. We are not allowed to do anything. In particular, we are not allowed to go out of the classroom.
5. They have to wait here for help. More specifically, they have to wait for his help only.
换一种说法或者举例实际上是把前后两个并列的成分连接起来，或者换一种说法表达，或者举个例子表达。有的时候，我们还需要用修正前面说法的方法来连接文字。
6. The machine is working now. Or rather, you think it is working.
7. She likes you. To be more precise, she likes your money. (to be more exact, to be exact)

三、值得学习的句子

1. Fishermen and sailors sometimes claim to have seen monsters in the sea.
They claimed to have completed the tasks.
You can send out another claim if your purchased books do not arrive in two days.

2. It is now known that many of these “monsters” which have at times been sighted are simply strange fish.
People later learned that it was simply a strange fish.
They have at times spotted dish-like flying objects in this region.

3. Realizing that this was no ordinary fish, the fisherman made every effort not to damage it in any way.
Realizing that this could be the major turning point of her life, she took some time to sort things out herself.
He made every effort not to spoil the holiday in any way, but in vain.

4. When it was eventually brought to shore, it was found to be over thirteen feet long.
When an agreement was eventually reached, everyone felt pleased.
Eventually he finished that project given by his teacher.
