IELTS Sample Essay Success and Luck
by Mr. Jeenn Lee Hsieh for www.360abc.com IELTS Topic Writing task 2 Money is the single motivational factor for success in any work field. How far you agree with this? TOEFL Topic ''When people succeed in life, it is because of hard work. Being lucky has nothing to do with success in life.'' Do you agree or disagree with the quotation above? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position. Sample Essay Saying that hard work leads to success seems to be too easy an answer. People work because they need money to live, and obviously they also need luck to succeed. By working hard people can make a reasonable living. But this is not exactly success we are talking about. If being lucky has something to do with success, what then is luck made of? This is a question puzzling me. Now, I would like to raise another question. What are some other reasons that people work, money being the most important motivational factor for success? I have heard about stories of millionaries with great talents for success and unusual opportunities falling upon them. I have got the feeling that their success has been built on careful planning rather than taking risks or chances. To my surprise, most successful persons have not achieved their distinction by possessing some new talents, or many opportunties presented to them. Instead, they have developed the talent and opportunity at hand. This makes a difference. And such a difference I would call luck. Then, as the difference becomes bigger, more luck comes. So much so, success produces success as money produces money. The phenomenon of this sort echos the words of Thomas Jeffeson: ''I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.'' There is another surprise in store for me. It is interesting to note that successful people are mostly motivated by a strong desire for excellence probably without thier knowing it. As far as I can imagine, they work hard not only on their jobs but also on themselves. That is more than common sense in today's world in which everything is measured by success and by how much money it makes. The underlying motivation is the satisfaction to the individual. The passion to excel enables in many cases the right person to seize the right opportunity at the right time on the right job. All this is what being lucky is about, of course. To aim highly is easy, but to reach the goal isn't. It takes hard work and powerful desire which join forces to bring luck in a mysterious way. But one fact remains clear to me. Not that people who make money become successful. But that successful people attract money. They bring success to what they do. And, no less important, they are happy about what they are doing well. Other related writing topics The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns. People work because they need money to live. What are some other reasons that people work? Only people who earn a lot of money are successful. Some people believe that success in life ceoms from taking risks and chances. Others believe that success results from careful planning. In your opinion, what does success come from? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
