情人节的由来

2.14“情人节”(Valentine’s Day)，你一定已经安排好了烛光晚餐、玫瑰花束和甜言蜜语了吧，可是万一女朋友心血来潮问起：“亲爱的，为什么情人节要叫Valentine’s Day呢？”你该怎么回答呢？别担心，今天就为你补上这一课“情人节的由来”。

Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is a time for love. People give each other cards, flowers, and chocolates to show they care. But who was St. Valentine?

每个人都知道情人节（圣瓦伦丁节）是爱的节日。人们互赠卡片、花和巧克力来表达爱意。但谁是圣瓦论丁呢？

St. Valentine was a priest（神父） who helped marry（为…证婚） young lovers in secret. He was caught and put in jail（监狱）. There, he fell in love with a young girl and wrote her a letter before he died, signed it “from your Valentine”. And that day, is February 14th.

St. Valentine是个秘密位年轻恋人主持婚礼的神父。他被抓进了监狱。在那里，他与一位年轻姑娘相爱，并在死前留给她的一封信中署名“来自你的Valentine”。那天就是2月14日。

1．time做名词，主要有以下用法。

（1）表示“时间”（不可数），如：
How time flies!

（2）表示“回、次”（可数），如：

（3）a time for…意为“一个……的时候”，如：
Winter vacation is a time for fun.
寒假是个放松去玩的好时机。

相爱的方式很多，表达的方式更多，这里为大家介绍几种男女之间表达爱慕的说法。

to have a crush on (someone)
这种爱慕可能是给予一定程度的了解，可有些爱慕纯是被外表吸引，如：
He has a crush on her (him).
他对她十分爱慕。

to catch one’s eye
多指被外表吸引，迷住了。
A nice-looking girl caught his eye. 一个漂亮的妞儿把他迷住了。

*友情提示：这里的eye只能用单数。

to have the hots for (someone)
多半指对方很有sexual attraction，如：
When he met her, he had the hots for her.
当他见到她，他就对她爱慕不已。

一见钟情，love at the first sight还可以说成to hit it off，如：
He was introduced to a pretty woman and they seem to hit it off immediately.
他被介绍给一位漂亮女子后，他们似乎一见钟情。
