星期五和13

星期五加13历来被认为是非常不吉利的日子，这是怎么回事呢？

According to the Bible（圣经）, the Lord God created the first man, Adam. Then he took a rib（肋骨） from Adam's body and out of it created the first woman, Eve. It was said that Adam was created on a Friday and it was on Friday that Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit（禁果）, and on a Friday they died. Friday was also the common（通常的） day in England for executing（处死） criminals（罪犯）, for which it was sometimes known as Hanging（绞刑） Day.

据圣经上讲，上帝创造了第一个男人--亚当。然后，上帝从亚当身上取下一根肋骨又造了一个女人-夏娃。据说，亚当是在星期五被造出来的，他和夏娃吃禁果也在星期五，他俩死的日子也是星期五。英国从前常常在星期五处死罪犯、因此星期五有时也叫“绞刑日”。

From the Old Norse myth people got the idea that 13 people sitting at a table to have a dinner was unlucky. And this superstition（迷信） was confirmed（被证实） by the last supper of Christ and his disciples（门徒）. Bible tells us that Christ sat down with his 12 disciples, which made up the number 13, at the last supper when Judas（犹大）, one of the 12 disciples, sold his master（师傅） for thirty pieces of silver（银币）. Christ was killed by nailing（钉） on the cross the following day on a Friday.

从挪威神话中，人们产生一种想法：13个人坐在一起聚餐是不吉利的。这种迷信被耶稣和其12个门徒的最后的晚餐加以证实。圣经上说，在最后的晚餐上，耶稣和他的12个门徒坐在一起，正好是13人。他的门徒之——犹大，为了三十个银币而出卖了自己的老师。第二天，耶稣便被钉死在十字架上，这天碰巧是星期五。

【世博读书笔记】

1．短语make up的用法。

（1）表示“补足”，如：
We need $50 to make up the sum required.
我们需要五十美元以补足所需要的数目。

（2）表示“编造”，如：
The whole story is made up.
整个故事完全是虚构出来的。

（3）表示“组成”，如：
The medical team was made up of twelve doctors.
医疗队由十二名医生组成。

*注意，把make和up放在一起，写成makeup，指的是“化妆品”。比如：
I put on a bit of makeup.
我化一点妆。
I don't wear makeup.
我不化妆。

2．sell

sell做动词，通常表示“卖”，此外，还可以引申出许多其他意思。

（1）表示“欺骗”，如：
She was sold again.
她又上当了。

（2）表示“出卖、背叛”，如：
He would sell his soul for the position.
他为了得到那个职位可以出卖灵魂。

在交际中，为了使自己的思想为读者或听众所理解，人们往往突出重要内容，这就要用到强调句式。

其中一种结构为：It is/was +强调部分+ that/who +其他部分

*友情提示：如果强调部分是人，可用who\whom代替that

请看下面的例子：

原句：Julia buys her vegetables in the market.朱利亚在市场上买菜。
强调句：
1．It is Julia that/who buys vegetables in the market.是朱利亚去市场买的菜。（强调主语）
2．It is her vegetables that Julia buys in the market.朱利亚去市场买的是菜。（强调宾语）
3．It is in the market that Julia buys her vegetables.朱利亚是在市场上买的菜。（强调状语）

*考考你：如果要强调的主语或宾语是复数，系动词要不要跟着变成are/were呢？

1．It is said that you are good at operating computers.
2．It is said that Christopher Columbus discovered America.

回答是否定的。强调句式中，be只能是单数形式的is/was。
