第八十五课 Never too old to learn活到老学到老

一、摘要写作

1、摘要练习

分别使用快速阅读法、听写法和合并法练习写摘要。

将合并句子写的摘要贴到会员社区。自己根据课文内容，将可以合并的句子合并，去掉一些细节，篇幅争取控制在50字到60字。

2、继续做两句话概括的练习。

用两句概括，请大家自己做。

从第三十一课开始，我不再提供摘要练习的答案。请大家认真做好摘要练习，这是提高表达能力，进而提高写作能力，特别是围绕中心进行写作的好方法。希望大家坚持，我会在会员社区帮大家修改摘要，并且适当做一些讲评，选出比较好的摘要供大家参考。

二、本课重点：文章衔接的手段[12]

我们在表达完一个意思以后，还想在说点什么，来肯定或者进一步说明这层意思，可以使用and, also, moreover, in addition来连接句子：
1. He works very hard. And he knows how to work fast.
2. This man is a great teacher. Also, he is a great cook.
3. They are always late for work. Moreover, they are often late to finish their tasks.
4. This school is good for its teaching. In addition, its fees are low.

有时候，我们表达了一个否定的意思，后面继续表达这个意思，可以用nor, neither…nor来表示：
5. We should not give up. Nor should you.
6. They could neither complete the job nor give it up.

三、值得学习的句子

1. I have just received a letter from my old school, informing me that he will be retiring next week.
He received a phone call from the police, informing him that his son had been found.
I have just got a proposal from the class, suggesting that the afternoon classes start at 3.

2. Pupils will send him a present to mark the occasion.
We are going to hold a party for him to mark his retirement.
She is having a trip to the south to mark her 30 years of service in the travel agency.

3. It is a curious coincidence that the day before his retirement, Mr. Page will have been teaching for a total of forty years.
It is a curious coincidence that he will come to city on the same day.
It was a coincidence that these two houses were burnt down on the same day.
