lust means an overwhelming desire or craving:强烈的欲望或渴望。例如：a lust for power.对权力的渴望；

a lust for life.对生活的渴望。lust 常和for , of 连用。

关于渴望，我们还可以说：thirst for/long for/yearn for。thrust for means an insistent desire; a craving:是指渴望一种持久的愿望；热望。a thirst for knowledge.求知欲。long for也表示渴望的意思。例如：People are longing for peace.人们渴望和平。We are longing to see you.我们渴望看见你。yearn for means to have a strong, often melancholy desire.指渴望怀有强烈、经常是忧愁的愿望。例如：They yearned for his return. 他们盼望着他回来。

allied means joined or united in a close relationship,是指同盟的，联盟的结成紧密关系的意思。例如：allied tribes.联合部落。
