IELTS Topic
Writing task 2

Are famous people treated fairly by the media? Should they be given more privacy, or the price of their fame an invasion into their private lives?

Example Writing:

It's easy to misunderstand the behaviors of famous people anxious to shine like stars. The victim images of celebrities being tortured or even crucified by the media are often not what they look like. Too often, the opposite images are true. Look at this picture. They work hard all their lives to become well-known, then wear dark glasses, as if to avoid being recognized. What do famous people really want in order to keep shining in galaxies? Are they using the media to promote themselves and their products?

The rise of international celebrities in acting and popular music in particular is due in large part to the massive scale of the media industries, enabling them to be viewed more often and in more places. Exposure of private lives to the public, intentionally or otherwise, is characteristic of the Hollywood obsession of fame and money. In all likelihood, quite a few famous stars are actually looking for it without admitting it. They make breaking news--flirting and love affairs, extravagance and sex addiction, hasty marriages and divorces, drugs and drunk driving, to name only a few. All of them may have great talents. Yet, as humans they also have vanities and ambitions.

Real privacy has a price most celebrities cannot afford since they wish to be glorified in the movie-star system. The last thing they want in the world is allow their names and faces to be ignored and not to be seen anymore, like fading stars about to pass away. The media outlets actually serve to boost the images of stars who must thrive on fame or infamy or both to be able to get to where they wish to be. An invasion to the private lives could not have been possible without their having left roadsigns leading to distant galaxies. In fact, these are their successes and also their problems. Ordinary housewives and family men don't have to worry about the media.

Journalists and paparazzis are therefore not so much to blame for putting the private lives of celebrities in the center of public attention, along with important global issues. Often, those professionals do that for free. Besides, they need to give the audience what they want in order to survive in the gossip world. Furthermore, famous people couldn't be so famous were it not for the media. It's only a game, then. And the game is fair enough, even though it's a small price to pay.
