Many parts of the world are losing important resources, such as forests, animals, or clean water. Choose one resource that is disappearing and explain why it needs to be saved. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Example writing:

"Water, water everywhere; not a drop to drink." This desperate crying from a thirsty sailor struggling on the open sea may happen to people on land in the future if we continue losing freshwater around the world. Seawater is not freshwater. Frehwater is clean an usable water, which is limited resource. Partly because of pollution and partly because of excessive exploitation, freshwater is disappearing at an alarming rate. Althouth it seems no immediate global crisis, the scarcity of usable water and water pollution may eventually drive human lives and livilihood to danger.

Signs of such risks have become more obvious recently. Water is gradually polluted in ponds, lakes, rivers and underground streams. Joining this destructive force are accelerating population, expanding agriculture, rapid industrialization and higher living standards. So much so, the issue is how to save water. Fortunately, water is said to be renwable if conserved on land and not running into the sea. Now the question: are people really conserving water? Perhaps. But they need to do more before it is too late.

To make things worse, we have been using water very unwisely. Not only much of the planet's freshwater is becoming polluted to a dangerous extent, but also it is widely abused. We cannot do without water. Our lives are interwined with it. Water is life. We drink it, bathe in it, grow crops with it and generate electricity with it. Yet, we have gone beyond limits. We have unprudently dammed it, diverted it, drained it and damaged it. In forcing it to do our foolish bidding, we have actually abused it beyond repair.

If the worse comes to the worst, freshwater, like fuel, can be running out. To prevent water shortages, we should no longer take this gift from Nature for granted. Rather, we had better use it more effectively and share it peacefully. Already there have been regional conflicts about freshwater. When water becomes less, disputes will be heated. Who can say that the next war will not be fought over water rather than politics or ideology or fuel?
